For the longest time, I avoided gift guides like the plague. They generally reek of commercialism and are often full of frivolous stocking stuffers that no one wants or super-expensive items that no one can afford. Plus, they tend to be categorized by gender, so you see the same shaving kit and cocktail sets over and over again for guys. But I realized a lot of the things I think are cool would be great gifts for anyone. So I’ve put together my own list of items I’m thinking of getting for friends and family or that I’d be happy to receive this year. Hope you enjoy!
Moment Lenses. As someone who’s constantly taking photos and videos on-the-go, I love the idea of lenses that increase the image quality of your iPhone pics (which is already pretty decent.) My favorite is the Wide lens, which lets you pack more into every shot and capture those Instagram-worthy landscapes.
The Five- Minute Journal I wish I could get this for everyone on my list. It’s a daily journal that lets you fill out start and end each day with a positive mindset by thinking about what you’re grateful for (and you know how I feel about that!) You obviously could do this without a book, but it sure helps that it’s cute and filled with lots of inspirational quotes. Another item at the top of my list by the same creators: the Productivity Planner. I backed their Kickstarter a few months ago and can’t wait to get mine in the mail.
Humans of New York Stories. I picked up a copy during a Black Friday sale, and it makes a perfect coffee table book for both long-time HONY lovers and brand-new fans. [Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with the dog..]
Grosche Teapots. I’m much more of a tea than a coffee kind of girl. For the tea aficionados in your life, try this minimalist glass teapot. Bonus points if you throw in some flowering tea!
Larsson and Jennings watches. This brand is all the rage right now and for good reason. The timeless designs (no pun intended) make these a great investment that goes with anything and will last for years. I’m partial to the Chain Metal in gold and the Lader in black (above.) But it looks I’ll have to get this one for myself because according to my boyfriend, there’s a Ukrainian superstition that says gifting watches brings bad luck.. :-/
Cuyana Classic Zip Around Wallet. This is one of my favorite brands for leather goods. I adore their less-is-more philosophy and their commitment to designing high-quality pieces from the best materials. Any of their accessories would make a great gift —I already have their classic leather tote bag, and have been eyeing these travel cases for toiletries. I know this is skewing a bit feminine, but you could easily get a similar wallet or dopp kit for men.
Roses de Chloé. Perfume is a tricky thing to gift to someone else because it’s always a hit or miss. I’m extremely sensitive when it comes to fragrances so when I find one I like, I hang on to it for dear life. This Chloé scent is light and feminine, with the subtle powdery fragrance of roses. I just ran out of my sample and would love to top up (hint, hint!)
Aesop Skincare. I’ve seen this distinctive design around the Internet, but have yet to try any of the products from this Australian company. The Jet Set Kit (above) or the London would make a great gift for travelers or just a perfect excuse to try out what’s become a cult favorite for face, hair and body products. I hear their stuff smells amazing!
Stay tuned for more holiday blog posts.
I’d love to know: what’s on your wishlist this holiday season?
